“I think we need to take a bit of a look at ourselves and stop doing that!” said Tony Mutter – skipper of LawConnect - referring to all of the Hobart navigators and skippers who’ve been constantly checking a highly dynamic weather pattern for days, hoping to gain some clarity, that isn’t yet there.
Tony describes the complex decision making that this uncertainty generates inshore route (good current but possibly less breeze) or the offshore route (more breeze but no south-going current). He also hopes that there won’t be a repeat this year of the mayhem that hallmarked the 2022 race start, where the five 100 footers went toe to toe the whole way down the harbour, hemmed in by the exclusion zones.
